Abby brought her box out of her room, inside it contained many of her favourite treasures. First, there was a bracelet her mother's friend gave her when she was born, although she didn't remember getting it, she liked the pretty blue and red colours on the bracelet and wore it around the house all the time. Then, there was a little stuffed toy bear which she always slept with, beside her, she called her teddy beark "Teddy". But her most favourite of all treasures was her new cooking kit she had gotten for her birthday. She had just turned 7 two weeks ago and was counting everyday.
Abby brought the box out onto the dining table.
"Who are you dressed as today, Abby?" Mother asked
"You!" Abby said, unable to hide a giggle.
"Do I wear all those beads?"
"Yes, you have many many beads"
"Well you will have them when you are older too, can you get your brother to come here, I need to tell you two something"
Abby ran downstairs and called her brother
"Listen you two" her mother said, "Today, a very special person is coming who i have to talk about my work to, can you two make sure to behave and be as quiet as you can?"
"Yes mother" Abby and her brother replied almost in unison
"Just play downstairs and try not to fight"
Today was a special day for mother, since an older lady was coming. Mrs. Robinson was her name. Mother said that she had to talk about her work with Mrs. Robinson.
Mother said that Abby should go downstairs and play with her brother, so that is where Abby set up her kitchen. "Billy", she asked her brother, "Do you want some strawbewwy cake?"
"No, but my lego army is going to come and attack you kitchen soon, so you had better run" Was her brother's reply.
"Here, you go" Abby said, whilst giving her brother some of her finest cake
"I don't want it," Billy said.
"Well its yours now, you should eat it while its hot", she remembered her mother's frequent saying.
"Ok then, I'll try some" Billy licked his lips as he raised the plate to his mouth.
"That was delicious, but I'm full now," he said.
"I'm making another one" said Abby with double the enthusiasm.
Soon, Billy's army came marching over to Abby's kitchen. His soldiers stepped into her cake and destroyed the stove. The soldiers were oblivious to the crying they heard.
"I told you that you had to leave" shouted Billy, "the soldiers need food for their next big fight"
Mother came downstairs before Billy could destroy the sink where Abby was preparing the next cake.
"You two have to stop now!" she said firmly, "Mrs. Robinson is still here and I expected you two to behave"
"Mommy" Abby muttered, "Could I please go upstairs with you"
With that, Abby held her mother's hand and walked upstairs to be with her mother.
"Sorry about that" mother said, "They started a fight"
Mother and Mrs. Robinson resumed their conversation, and Abby crawled up into her mother lap and looked at the clouds outside. Some were big and fluffy, others were skinny. That one looked like a pig, the other one looked like Horton the giraffe, like the one that father read to her in the library book "Horton's day out" Soon though, she became bored. "I have to be quiet" She told herself, but soon, she became even more bored and decided that she wanted to make a plum pudding this time. She would try to make it taste like her mother's specialty.
"Mama", Abby whispered, and poked her mother's cheek.
"Yes darling, her mother briefly interrupted her conversation with Mrs. Robinson"
"Can I bring my kitchen here?", she asked with her most poilte voice
"Ok, as long as you are quiet"
Abby ran downstairs, her kitchen had been completely obliterated by Billy's planes and tanks.
"Do you want to join my army?" Billy asked
"No" Abby said and took her big box upstairs.
She set up the kitchen right next to her mother and started making her cake.
"Sorry about the commotion," mother said to Mrs. Robinson "She just got it on her 7th Birthday two weeks ago and has been using it ever since,"
"Yes, I'm seven now" Abby said
"Abby can you be a little bit more quiet please?" her mother begged
"Yes, but the stove is quite loud"
"Good girl" said mother.
The business conversation lasted for a few more minutes before Abby started humming 'Mary had a little lamb' Her excuse was that the cake would cook better if it was happy to hear music.
Unfortunately though, that was the last straw for Mrs. Robinson, who did not appreciate Abby's music the way that Abby's kitchen was. Mrs. Robinson lost her patience and finally addressed Abby and said sternly.
"I'm sorry darling but we can't have a conversation with you being so loud there."
Abby looked at her mother, who remained reticent. Without anyone to comfort her, Abby ran to her room and burst out in tears. She chose to talk to Teddy instead.
A few minutes later, after Mrs. Robinson had left, mother came into Abby's room. Abby was almost asleep.
"I'm sorry about that, but you need to learn to listen to things when people tell you to" said mother, but mother, realizing that Abby was too tired to talk, chose to let her sleep peacefully with Teddy instead.
Abby is six
Abby usually plays with her toys and pretends to cook. Her birthday was two weeks ago, she rbags this often. And she uses her polite voice. Abby only has good intentions.
She has an older brother who makes fun of her as being childish, he upsets her often.
Her father is always out working, whilst mother is a very kind person, but the story is from the perspective of a young girl and we do not realize her intentions.
One day a lady, who Abby is told "Suffered a lot" by her mother, Mrs. Robinson, comes and talks to her mtoher for an afternoon, Abby is ridiculed by her brother and comes to hug her mother, soon though, she gets bored and brings her toys and plays by her mother's side. She then starts singing out loud and chanting songs as she "cooks" This upsets Mrs. Robinson and she tells Abby off, Abby then bursts out in tears.
